Miss July 1997 Daphnee Lynn Duplaix asks for your assistance in the rebuilding and maintaining of her Haiti. We battled with running her appeal in all caps.

I am a Haitian American! There is a spotlight shining on Haiti right now and I beg you all to allow that light to keep shining. I am so thankful to the world for coming to the aid of Haiti in such a devastating time. But I can assure you that even though millions of dollars have been raised already, it will take years for this country to feel any sort of normalcy. And normalcy to them is still extreme poverty. Think about it: Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere where 80% of the people live in poverty. That is why I ask of you to continue giving whether it be on a weekly basis or a monthly basis, every dollar will make a difference. Help keep the light shining...

Miss December 1979 Candace Jordan (nee Collins), the Chicago blogger jet set to LA to party with Hef and the girls at this years New Years Eve party. As our embedded Playmate, she brought back this story:

Parties at the Mansion never disappoint and I find it always an honor to be invited so when I heard that for this year’s event only 300 guests were invited, I felt especially lucky! When we pulled up at the Mansion and saw it so dramatically lit, I knew we were in for a great time!  Hef looked terrific in his burgundy smoking jacket happily ensconced between the Shannon Twins and Crystal Harris.  There were lots of “vintage” Playmates there too including the 25th Anniversary Playmate, Candy Loving who had come out from Florida.  She looked wonderful and it was great fun catching up on old times. I also saw astronaut Buzz Aldrin and his wife Lois (just back from a skiing weekend in Deer Valley), Julie Newmar (Catwoman), Lou Feriggno (the “Incredible Hulk”), Kato Kaelin (who was proud to point out he had the same girlfriend, Amber, as he had at the last New Year’s Eve party), Jane Russell (who’s 85 now with dark black hair), former Bear’s wide receiver Willie Gault, Dr. Jerry Buss (owner of the LA Lakers), Terry Moore (ex-paramour of Howard Hughes), former “Girls Next Door Star and Hef’s ex, Bridget Marquardt (looking very happy with boyfriend Nick Carpenter), Corey Feldman, Jose Canseco, Serria Tawan (Miss Nov. 2002), Dolores Del Monte (Miss March 1954), Peggy McIntaggart (Miss Jan. 1990), 1976 Playmate of the Year Lillian Muller with her photographer boyfriend, Maurice Rinaldi, Cynthia Myers (Miss Dec. 1968), Julie McCullough (Miss Feb. 1986) and Victoria Valentino (Miss Sept. 1963) among many others. Even Hef’s high school sweetheart, Betty, was there!  
 
The beautiful young servers and dancers were all body-painted and, if you recall, this is how Hef met Kendra. I think many of these young girls have similar dreams and when I asked one of them about the process, she said master body-painter, Mark Frazier, sends out a casting call to various agencies around town and then the girls audition but the final selections are made by Hef himself. We met a gorgeous, sexy girl, Kristy Ann Keppel Spillane (no relation to the writer), who has been body painted four times for Playboy parties. She had this to say about the evening, “I think this New Year’s Eve party was fantastic!  More low key than most of the parties I’ve attended but that made it more intimate and exclusive.”  1954 Playmate Dolores Del Monte (who attends many Playboy parties) said, “It was completely different from any I’ve been to in 12 years. It had a homey, family feel to it.” I agree on all counts.
 
We also got a chance to talk to the Shannon Twins and they couldn’t have been nicer. They asked me about my Playboy experience and are clearly enthralled with Hef and the whole Playboy world. They never tired of taking pics with guests (even though personal cameras were strictly prohibited) and were a delight to be around. Crystal never left Hef’s side and he took a lot of pics with her family who was also there that evening.
 
Nearer to midnight, everyone took to the dance floor and a rap group took over the mikes. The Twins and several other beautiful ladies took to the stage and then the balloons dropped. Hef’s brother Keith was seen kissing a beautiful woman and all around there were tears and hugs–another year had passed at the Playboy Mansion and all was right in Hef’s world!  Welcome to 2010!

When we first heard the above phrase coming through the grapevine one editor yelled from his office, “She’s back on the market, maybe I have a chance!”

We then explained to him, “no you don’t,” and, “it’s ‘single’ as in song.”

Miss February 1990 Pamela Anderson is making her singing debut with the release of a track titled “High." It won’t be a tribute to chemical-altering substances but rather the lifestyle of high fashion. Pam will be recording the song with friend and fashion designer Richie Rich (who? Oh this guy). Mr. Rich relays, “Pam says she wants to sing, but nothing too difficult, so she's just going to sing the word ‘high’ over and over.”

Well, surely the music video will be good.

If you asked what turns-on Miss September 1986 Rebekka Armstrong today, you’d get a similar answer to the one listed in her Playmate Data Sheet. The pouty blonde who got a rush from exercising in the 80’s is now a competitive bodybuilder who goes to the gym with purpose. Today Rebekka uses her title as a Playmate and her toned body to spread awareness on the fight against AIDS. Four years after posing for her Centerfold, Rebekka was diagnosed with HIV. After contemplating suicide and dropping to an alarming 80 pounds she started lifting weights to regain her strength–both physical and emotional. She says, “I started doing this to stay alive, but then I thought, ‘Hey, I want to show it off.’” The Playmate activist was most recently at Kent State University to show off her new body in support for the observance of AIDS week.
