Damn you, Cadillac. We were in love with the CTS sedan, and then you had to come along and introduce us to its hotter younger sister, the CTS Sport Wagon. The station wagon version of the CTS—the first station wagon Cadillac has sold in the United States—is now the hottest Caddy on the road. Station wagons just aren't supposed to be cool, but a week behind the wheel of this sexy soccer-mom mobile changed our minds.
There's little question, the CTS Sport Wagon is a design knockout. It looks as sleek and deadly as the slug for an assassin's rifle, and the aerodynamically raked roofline preserves the car's coupe-like lines despite the added junk in the trunk. Towering, sculptural taillights running from the back bumper to the top of the rear hatch are as eye-catching and cool as the oft-imitated front L.E.D.'s Audi pioneered. The luxurious handcrafted cabin has sapele wood trim, leather appointments and all the latest generation technology, including rear-view camera, remote start, adaptive forward lighting and a navigation unit with 10-speaker BOSE 5.1 surround sound system.
The Sport Wagon packs some punch with its 3.6-liter V6 (there is also a 3.0-liter, 270 horsepower engine). With the optional summer tire performance package, the CTS Sport Wagon is responsive and agile, although the slightly soft steering leans more toward the soccer mom than the adrenaline-junkie dad. Still, there's more than enough wolf in this wicked wagon's clothing. She may think it's her car. But you'll know better.
